  Matthew Fagan Jr.
M.S., LPC-Associate

Matthew Fagan, Jr., M.S., LPC-A is an eccentric pragmatist who believes therapy is about finding unique solutions to problems that will generate concrete changes in his clients' lives. He enjoys working with young men and women who have a desire to squeeze as much joy and adventure out of life as possible, while also finding ways to use their talents for creating positive impacts on the world. Matthew believes that the most creative individuals tend to suffer the most from painful life events, childhood trauma, and dysfunctional family dynamics which results in anxiety, unsuccessful relationships, codependency and substance abuse. Matthew's passion is helping these creative people overcome their difficulties to then unlock the massive potential for good they hold.

Matthew's aim in the therapeutic relationship is to create an environment which is safe, yet challenging, for the individual to explore the outer edges of their comfort zone so they can expand and grow. Matthew does this by prioritizing authenticity, honesty, and directness. This means there will be times when therapy is uncomfortable, but Matthew believes the same discomfort we often avoid, is where the joys of living a full life lie. Having had to work through many of these discomforts in his own life, Matthew knows the necessity of the unyielding support he must have for his clients going through this process. Whether that is creating a safe space for his clients to cry, or advocating on their behalf, Matthew understands that life sometimes feels like a battle and he is ready to stand beside his clients in hand-to-hand combat.

Matthew's education and training very much reflect his holistic attitude towards healing. Matthew completed his undergraduate degrees in Psychology and Communication Studies at Texas State University before taking a left turn into nutrition and functional fitness with The Chek Institute. After some personal exploration through world travel, and spiritual study, Matthew returned to graduate school to receive his Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Capella University before starting his private practice, Dawning Sun Therapy, in 2025. Matthew's life experience has shown him that health does not exist in a vacuum and if one is going to transform their life, they must be willing to change their lifestyle. Curiosity continues to guide Matthew in the expansion of his repertoire, continuously driving him to explore new perspectives, modalities and intervention methods.

Seeking an equally exciting life for himself as he wishes for his clients, Matthew has been all over the world. From the Shaolin Temples of China, to the rainforests of Costa Rica, Matthew plans to one day see it all with the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World being at the top of his bucket list. When he's not on the move, Matthew has a variety of hobbies ranging from singing to woodworking to gaming online with his buddies. Whether you are seeking ongoing support from therapy, or just hoping to get over the next mountain top in the valley of your life, working with Matthew is a transformative experience.
